Lookin' Good...

The gorgeous and talented Meagan Good covers the latest issue of H.A.S Magazine. She opens up and discusses her career, rumors, new projects and more.

Check out excerpt from the interview :
Upcoming ProjectsI have “Jumping the Broom” coming out Mother’s Day weekend. That was amazing because I got to work with Angela Bassett, who I’ve been dying yo work with since I was 14. Outside of that, I’ve been doing “The Game.” Then, I have a newmovie that I’ve produced called “Video Girl.” It’s very much in the vein of “GIA.” It’s about a music video vixen. It’s kind of a cautionary tale for young women. With the music group, we kind of do rock music, a little bit of rock. It’s very Beastie Boys meets Vanity 6, and we care called the H.E.L.L.O Girls. We are opening for Cee-Lo in about 6 months so that’s really exciting! I’m having a great time with it!

On Rumors
For the most part, most of them are false or basically speculation. I’m not sure what most of them are though. I’ve seen a couple things here and there but for the most part I try and stay clear of it. There was a time in my life when the media & internet really, really came out full force where it had me in tears. It just got to the point where I was like, “You know what, I’m just going to avoid it all together.” Rather than people validating you or people saying things that are offensive, I rather just focus on what God thinks about me and be the best person that I can be.

Challenges She’s FacedBeing typecast, people want to put you in a box based on what they think you can do and what they think your ability is. Also, being a black woman in this industry the opportunities for the quality projects that really have “meat” to them are kind of far and few between. There’s always the media that has opinions on you and who they think you are and that kind of thing. There are definitely a lot of things that could be potential road blocks, but I try to look at everything and say, “You know what? It’s a blessing to have something to fight for.” Just fighting to get up and go for it and fight the good fight.

Ashley Jewell

Kandi's from The Real Housewives of Atlanta, ex-fiance daughter Ashley Jewell was shot in the head earlier this week in a road rage incident  appears to recognize her mother's voice and can squeeze her hand.

From the AJC :

Asheley Jewell remained in critical condition Friday, but her family says the 15-year-old is showing some progress.

Jewell, a Stephenson High sophomore, was shot in the head last Saturday night in an apparent road rage incident in south Fulton County. Multiple shots were fired at the car Jewell was riding in. None of the other passengers or the driver was struck.

"She is still technically listed as critical, but she does seem to recognize her mom's voice, and she makes attempts to follow simple commands they give her, like to squeeze their hands," her cousin, Ebony Phillips, told the AJC. "She can't really do it physically but there's a cognitive foundation they might be able to build on."

Jewell still has a lot of swelling in her brain and is sedated most of the time, Phillips said. But she added: "We're very, very thankful" for the progress.

Friends and relatives will hold a candlelight vigil for Jewell on Saturday near the site of the shooting. The vigil starts at 7 p.m. at O'Reilly Auto Parts, 5549 Old National Highway in College Park.

About 10:30 p.m. last Saturday, Fulton police said, two vehicles were traveling on Old National Highway near Jerome Road when one began pursuing the other. Shots were fired and Jewell, a passenger in the car being chased, was hit.

STAY TUNED!!

Ashton Jones

The 24-year-old retail manager from Nashville had the fewest viewer votes on Thursday. The R&B singer gave Diana Ross, another shot after learning she had received the least viewer votes, performing "When You Tell Me That You Love Me" in a long-shot attempt to win the judges' singular safe card for the season. Jennifer Lopez gently broke the news that their decision not to save her was unanimous, telling Ashton, "I was rooting for you, baby."

I was really rooting for her to, hoping she make it further than she did, but I know she will go on to bigger and better things.

GOOD CHOICE OR NOT?

Drama High !

In April of 2001, L. Divine began work on her series of books for young adults appropriately titled Drama High.  As a teacher in the Los Angeles Unified School District, L. Divine noticed a rapid decline of literacy among youth.  Her motivation for writing for teenagers was to create material that would simply inspire them to read for pleasure.
Drama High, the premiere African American young adult fiction series, takes the reader on the familiar roller coaster ride that everyone knows and experiences in high school. We follow the main character, Jayd Jackson, through her first-person experiences with friends, boys, enemies, teachers, and family.  Although this series focuses on the life of Jayd Jackson, a young black girl from Compton, CA attending a predominantly white high school in the South Bay of Southern California, the premise and issues are universal.
The books have caught on quickly. L. Divine has had excellent reviews in Publisher’s Weekly, Kirkus, Essence and Ebony magazines as well as several newspapers. The community has shown special interest in her series and it is swiftly growing in popularity. There are currently 14 volumes in publication, which debuted October, 2006 (Dafina/Kensington Publishers).
When not writing, L. Divine guest lectures and holds workshops for writers and young adults. She is also involved in community activities and serves as a writing expert on various panels. L. Divine served as a Visiting Scholar in the Center for the Study of Women at UCLA and continues to be an active member of academia, researching issues in African Diaspora and Women’s Studies.
An avid volunteer, L. Divine continues to serve communities who would not otherwise have access to the novels by donating her time and books to local schools and community programs focusing on African American teenaged girls. L. Divine has every intention of pursuing her goal:  inspiring young people to read for pleasure.  She already has plans for her second series, Drama U, which will focus on Jayd’s college experience.

L. Divine was raised in Compton, California and has lived all over Los Angeles, as well as in Jamaica, West Indies. She now resides in Atlanta with her young daughter and son.

TEEN CEO

Thank you for visiting LeannasHair.com

My name is Leanna Archer; I am 13 years old, I’m in 8th grade . I am currently living my dream as a CEO of Leanna’s Inc., a hair and body care products that I started when I was 9 years old in Long Island NY. Since a young age, my mom put a hair pomade that my great grandmother created and as I grew older, it became obvious to me that the compliments that I was receiving from strangers about my beautiful locks had something to do with the pomade, the more I thought about it the more it became obvious that making this recipe available could benefit both me and the potential customers. But I had to find a way to convince my parents not only to listen to my idea but to also help me accomplish it.

At first when I brought it to their attention, the response that I got was “it’s a great idea but we don’t have time or the knowledge about running a business”.  I was told to wait when I get older, but I was convinced that anyone using this product would have the same result that I was getting. So what I did was, every time my great grandmother makes a batch of hair products, I would take some samples in a Gerber food jar to my friends with the pomade and sure enough my strategy worked.  The response was almost immediate; we started getting phone calls and people sending checks for larger amounts.  Now I had enough ammunition to convince my parents to help me.  My research on the internet on how to obtain a business license and a Tax I D was already completed; I gave them to my parents. They were so impressed that the next sentence out of their mouth was “what are we going to call this company”, I said Leanna’s and that was it.

In June 2005, Leanna’s Inc. was created and started selling Hair and Body products that consist of a Hair dressing, Hair Dressing with Shea Butter, Hair Oil Treatment, Shampoo, Conditioner, Deep Conditioner, Moisturizing Hair Mist, Pure Shea Butter for the skin, Scented Hand and Body lotions, Facial Mask, French Green Clay Mask, Scented Dead Sea Salts. My products can be used on any types of hair no matter what your ethnic background is.

Currently Leanna’s Inc. is has a full line of hair products available on the internet, at some Health Food Stores and at some beauty salons.  We currently have a Kid’s Rep. Program where I make it very easy for kids my age to sell my products with their parent’s help anywhere in the US. The information is available on my website.
I continue to do research to improve my current products and work on new ones.
I am currently responsible for the creations and development of my products.  My customer’s satisfaction is my biggest priority and motivation.  With the help of my father, my brothers, my mother, it makes it easier to make products, pack and ship products all over the US and beyond.

Leanna’s Inc.’s success is well on the path that I was hoping it would be. My success is the reason that I reached out to kids all over America.  I travel the country giving speeches to motivate kids and young adults and while doing that, I have been interviewed by various Newspapers, magazines and television shows.

Thank you

Remeber Olivia?

In 2000, she became the first artist signed to Clive Davis J Records. Her self-titled debut album Olivia was released in 2001.  Then in 2004, Olivia re-emerged as the first woman signed to G-Unit Records. Her most known song from G-Unit, is Candy Shop. In 2007, it was announced Olivia and G-Unit Records had parted ways therefore her second studio album Behind Closed Doors, was shelved. However, the album has since been released as a mixtape available for download on several websites. Since then Olivia has hired an acting coach and been auditioning for both television and film. She will make her acting debut in the film Conspiracy X directed by Shawn Barker. In 2009, Olivia did a feature for Congolese singer Fally Ipupa on his song "Chaise Electrique". In 2009 at a public event she announced she has signed a recording contract with Universal Motown, which will release her official second studio album titled Show the World. She is now on a new reality series Love and Hip Hop, which airs on VH1 March 14 at 10p.m.

Love & Hip-Hop Premiers Tonight on VH1 @10:30

'Love and Hip Hop' cast (left to right): Olivia Longott, Chrissy Lampkin, Somaya 'Boss' Reece, Emily Bustamante, Mashonda Tifrere.
 Let's Meet The Ladies:
Olivia, who dates the Jets Darrelle Revis, is scrambling to revitalize a hip-hop career that seems to have lost traction.
Chrissy, after six years with hip-hop star Jim Jones, mentions a little too often that she isn't sure their status quo will keep her happy forever. Six years, she says, with no kids, no ring, nothing that gives her any kind of grip on tomorrow. She isn't just an ornament, she tells us. She's a designer and stylist. She's important in Jones' life. But without some official recognition of that status, she's just one hot new girl away from being yesterday's news.

Latina rapper Somaya (Boss) Reece comes in from the West Coast and takes a meeting with Jones, Chrissy instantly feels the need to chop Somaya off at the knees. It makes for good TV drama. It doesn't look like a very secure way to live. When Chrissy and Somaya cross paths at a party, they quickly trade daggers. Somaya later reflects on the exchange by saying, in a mocking tone, "So what do you do? What's your title? 'Girlfriend'?"
Things aren't much better for New York-born Emily Bustamante, who for the last decade has been the stylist and low-profile girlfriend of rapper Fabolous. They have two children, but she and they don't appear with him in public. No parties, no red carpets. Wouldn't be good for Fabolous' image. Emily has her own career as a stylist. But what she really wants is respect and acknowledgement from Fabolous.

And, we all know Mashonda Tifrere, known professionally as Mashonda, is an R & B singer. She dated, & married Swizz Beats, and after 4 years of marriage, the couple divorced on May 7,2010. Swizz Beats then admitted he was having an affair with Alicia Keys. Mashonda is now focusing on writing and producing film. She still follows her passion for music as she writes songs for many different recording artists. Mentoring has become a love of hers as she speaks openly to women all over the nation about self empowerment and positivity. Mashonda admits that her number one priority is her 3 year old son Kasseem Jr. Mashonda Tifrere's story is a classic. A young girl growing up in the urban city of New York, chasing her dreams and her love and ultimately finding her reality. The pain that came from her very public divorce from her super producer, ex-husband Swizz Beatz, has given Mashonda the wisdom and strength to school each of us a little bit on life. Moving forward she believes that her life has just begun.

Bella Browne

The hottest urban pop group, Bella Browne, has emerged on the scene and is here to stay. The dynamic female group is comprised of Amanda Ward (15), Marshe Morton (17), Knesha, Sal'vances. The group was discovered by Monyee Stokes and is currently signed to Stokes’ It’s All Me Entertainment music management and production company. Since Bella Browne’s emergence no one can get enough of their eclectic beats and soulful sounds. The girls are currently gearing up for their debut single “Leave Him Alone”, written and vocally produced by Dani Wright and long time producer Brandon Howard. Brandon has worked with renowned artists such as, Wyclef Jean, Missy Elliot, The Jacksons, Neyo and many others. Dani Wright is also known for her song featured on Danity Kane’s latest album “Welcome to the Dollhouse”. The young ladies of Bella Browne hail from all over the United States and believe that divine intervention brought them all together. It’s All Me Entertainment’s Chief Executive Officer Monyee Stokes says, “I chose the name Bella Browne because they are three beautiful, brown and talented females and I wanted a name that described them to the fullest. They all have different characteristics that they bring to the table. Amanda is the wild one, Marshe is laid back and easy going, while Vijeta is the ‘mother’ of the group and makes sure all the girls are comfortable”. Belle Browne has brought back the meaning of “Real Music” to their upcoming single and album.

The youngest member of the group Amanda Ward holds nothing back when it comes to performing in front of a crowd. Her age is not to be mistaken for lack of experience and she holds her own weight as the lead singer of the group. Amanda was born in Detroit, Michigan and moved to Los Angeles when she was four years old. It was here in Los Angeles where she began singing in the choir at church and developing her love for singing and entertaining. “I chose entertaining as a career because it’s something I enjoy doing more than anything else in the world and it’s the best thing I can do. I believe it’s what I’m supposed to do,” says Amanda.

Seventeen year old Marshe Morton has been described as the most modest of the trio. Marshe was born and raised in the Inland Empire and is proud to be from her hometown. Her greatest music influences include: Lauryn Hill, India Arie, Jill Scott, Common, Jay-Z, Keyshia Cole, and Alicia Keys. Marshe believes that being raised within the entertainment industry gives her the advantage over other aspiring young artists. “The fact that I was raised around family and friends in the entertainment field have helped to shape me into an entertainer,” says Marshe.

The promising triumvirate is looking forward to completing their first album this summer and will shoot their first music video for the hot single “Leave Him Alone” this fall.

Queen Latifah New Movie ?

VH1 has teamed up with Queen Latifah to turn her upcoming “Single Ladies” film into the network’s very own first scripted series.  Surely, this is not the first time a TV series has been based off of a film, but in this case, the show is being picked up before the movie has been released. “Single Ladies” is a comedic drama about Val, Keisha, and April – three best friends with different philosophies on sex and relationships.Val (Stacey Dash) is an ambitious aspiring fashion mogul who wants to find a true partner. Keisha (LisaRaye McCoy), on the other hand, is a former video dancer just looking for a rich man to keep her in style. April (Charity Shea,) has supposedly found the perfect man and the perfect marriage – but is learning that marriage isn’t necessarily a happy ending.

The New Raven

We know her from back in the day playing "Olivia" on The Cosby show, but Miss Raven-Symoné Christina Pearman is all grown up at 21 years old.  Raven-Symone who once happily called herself “thick and fabulous” is slimming down. She recently told People, she was the only one who considered herself attractive when she was at heavier weight.
“I thought I looked fabulous before and nobody else did. So, whatever.”
“Actually, now I wear bigger clothes because I don’t like the way people stare at me,” she says. “I liked it before. Now, you’re just looking at me for the wrong reasons. Before, you were actually looking at me for a real reason.” Raven admitted to being relieved she doesn’t work on her hit show “That’s So Raven” anymore since it contributed to her weight gain. “That’s what stress does to you. I’ve been not stressing. I’ve been in my own house, decorating and finding hobbies.”

"I wanted people to have a chance to really hear my voice and we thought that by giving them songs they already loved and allowing me to bring my own style, it would be really fun," Tiffany explains. "Of course I'd heard some of these songs before but I think I added my own thing to them because I change things up. I bring a little hip-hop, a little R&B, a little alternative, Broadway, even world music. I want to do it all so that people will know that I can do lots of stuff." The result is a collection of songs that's refreshing, engaging and charged with emotion.  Tiffany's vocal teacher informed her about upcoming auditions for "Star Search." Tiffany nailed her audition and was selected to be on the show. Delivering a roof-raising version of the classic "Stormy Weather," Tiffany wowed the judges and, in February 2003, on her fourth "Star Search" appearance, won the Grand Champion title in the junior singer division. Later in In early 2003, Tiffany sang for executives at Columbia Records and, six months later, was offered a deal.when she is not singing, Ms.Evans landed a small role on CBS's "The District" and appeared in the 2005 film, "Diary of a Mad Black Women"

2011 Ms.Evans

In 2008 she released her self entitled album Tiffany Evans, with her hit single Promise Ring featuring Grammy award singer Ciara.  In September 2010, Evans recently signed a management deal with Music World Entertainment. Evans released the lead single from her second studio album, Perfect Imperfection, titled "I'll Be There"; the video was released on December 6 on her Myspace page.

Tiffany Evans’ next album, Perfect Imperfection, which includes the inspirational first single, “I’ll Be There,” is slated for release spring, 2011.

A quick synopsis, of the video:

The video begins with Tiffany on a rooftop overlooking the city, singing and in tears. She then writes a unknown word on her hand. While singing, images of a domestically abused woman, a child crying, another woman, and a man in handcuffs are shown. The woman has the word "despised" written on her hand, the boy has "helpless", the other woman has "betrayed", and the man has "flawed". The majority of the video is in black and white, until the song reaches it peak and the color appears. Tiffany is seen in a room with pictures hanging from the ceiling. Then all of the words are changed with "positive" ones, such as "protected", and lovely. Ultimately, Tiffany shows her hand with the words "Faith", "Hope", and "Trust".
